Cosmetic products sold in the U.S. are required by the FDA to list ingredients in descending order of concentration — meaning the first few items make up the bulk of what you're applying. Anything appearing after the 1% threshold (roughly the midpoint in most formulas) may be present in very small amounts. That's not a reason to dismiss them — some actives are effective at low concentrations — but it does help calibrate expectations.
Ingredients are listed using their INCI names, which are standardized international terms. Familiar ingredients can hide behind unfamiliar names: vitamin C is often listed as L-ascorbic acid, vitamin B3 as niacinamide or nicotinamide. Hydrators and Barrier Builders
Hyaluronic acid is a humectant naturally found in the body. In skincare, it's used to attract and hold moisture at the skin's surface. It works best in humid environments or when sealed in with a moisturizer. Ceramides are lipids that mimic the skin's own barrier components, helping reduce moisture loss and supporting resilience against environmental stressors.
Exfoliating Acids
AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) such as glycolic and lactic acid work on the skin's surface to loosen dead cells and improve texture.
